Our visit was less than helpful. The salesmen was very pushy and did not listen to us at all. The first question asked before any proper introductions was 'What is your MAXIMUM budget?' Asking someones budget helps eliminate some models and on the sales ends time, but it was very off putting since the question gives a bad first impression that all they care about is selling you the highest price possible and leaves no room for negotiation. The more important and good service questions would be size of home, wood, gas, electric or pellet stove. Appearance or model preference. None of those more important questions were asked. He had already started pushing us towards their most expensive model because we said we didn't have a max budget. It was a model for 3000+ sq ft house and we have a 1000 sq ft house. We had to tell him what we were looking for and then he said oh well we can order that we don't keep it in stock and he looked disappointed. Then someone else walked in, he brightened up and he said he would be right back and proceeded the exact same question and behavior to the next couple who were just as off put by the 'Max budget question' as we were. The oblivious salesman just continued and showed them the highest model in their budget while we sat there waiting to be finished with. Needless to say, we said we would think about and wont be back. I don't know if they work on commission or if this was the owner but we ended up going to SOMD Hearth instead and we were treated much better. They asked all the right questions and never got pushy.

Towards the end of winter my pellet stove broke and a replacement was needed. I had heard great things about Tri-County Hearth and Patio so went there for help. My broken stove came with the house and was probably 20 years old so I needed a lot of assistance! Josh Kelley, the owner, helped me with everything I needed. He did a house call to assess exactly what I needed including the stove and venting requirements. He then made recommendations based on the size of my house and potential costs involved, including installation. I made my purchase and Mr. Kelley ordered my stove. After only a week he personally came to install my new equipment with MagicBroom Chimney Sweeps of Waldorf. What I expected to be a 3 hour job was only an hour, from removing my old equipment, to installing the new stove, to getting up lit and running. Tarps were laid out to keep my carpets free from ash and dust during the process which I truly appreciated! Mr. Kelley then gave me a tutorial about all the features and cleaning requirements. I have to say that I was more than pleased with the service I got from both Tri-County Hearth and Patio and MagicBroom. I would highly recommend them for both your heating and cooling needs!
I got so much help in the store. I also appreciate the technicians Ryan and Zach. They did an exceptional and professional job installing my new fireplace insert. Ryan took the time to answer all my questions, showed the complete operation of the stove and even built my first fire. He showed me many interesting things. I appreciate his knowledge of the product. I will highly recommend him and Tri County Hearth and Patio to all my friends.
I've done business with Tri County Hearth and Patio for nearly 20 years and until recently always had a good experience with them. They have recently had a complete turnover in staff and the new people just don't measure up - I know their products better than they do. The reason for this review is a bait and switch incident. I called and asked for the price of a ton of pellets but when I went to store to buy them, the price I was quoted was not honored even when the staff member that gave me the price admitted to other staff that he had quoted me a different (lower) price. I asked that the owner call me, but that has not happened. So after all this time and several thousands of dollars spent, I am doubtful that I will be a returning customer. I try to support local business, but when I get treated this way, I will spend my money somewhere else.
